The Jets Noise Ordinance Violation: When Mark Sanchez Beat Us
Official Record - January 16, 2011
The New York Jets, led by Mark Sanchez, came to Gillette Stadium and won a playoff game. In Dynasty District. At our house.
Town Council's Immediate Response:
"This is embarrassing. This is confusing. This is the Jets. THE JETS. Motion to pretend this didn't happen. Motion fails because it definitely happened and Jets fans won't let us forget it."
The Home Loss Horror
Gillette Stadium. Dynasty District's fortress. Where championships are celebrated and opponents humbled. The Jets won 28-21.
Community Reaction Stages:
- Denial: "This isn't happening."
- Anger: "THE JETS?!"
- Bargaining: "Maybe there was a mistake? Check the replay?"
- Depression: "The Jets beat us at home."
- Acceptance: [STATUS: NEVER ACHIEVED]
Mark Sanchez threw three touchdown passes in our house. Three.
This required municipal intervention.
Ordinance 28-21: The Jets Noise Ordinance
Emergency Town Council Meeting, January 17, 2011:
"Whereas the Jets defeated the Patriots at home, and whereas that's unacceptable, and whereas we can't actually stop it from happening but can make it officially frowned upon, be it resolved that:
SECTION 1: Jets-related celebrations within Dynasty District limits are subject to noise ordinance restrictions.
SECTION 2: Green and white color combinations are temporarily discouraged.
SECTION 3: Any mention of 'Rex Ryan' must be accompanied by an official eye roll.
SECTION 4: Mark Sanchez added to Municipal Confusion Registry (he's... fine? How did this happen?)
SECTION 5: Home playoff losses are officially recognized as more painful than road playoff losses.
SECTION 6: The phrase 'At least it wasn't the Giants' provides minimal comfort."
Vote: Unanimous (with maximum frustration)
Citizen Testimonials
Harold Weatherby, Town Council:
"I've seen us lose playoff games. But at home? To the Jets? This is a new low. I'm not mad. I'm disappointed. Actually, I'm both. I'm mad-appointed."
Dr. Patricia Walsh, Hospital:
"Treated 71 cases of 'Home Playoff Loss Syndrome.' Much worse than road losses. Patients keep saying 'But we were at home.' We know. We all know. It doesn't help."
Police Chief Morrison:
"Jets fans were celebrating in Dynasty District. In OUR town. I couldn't do anything about it because they weren't breaking any laws. Until we passed the noise ordinance. Now I have legal options. Petty? Perhaps. Necessary? Absolutely."
Tom Berkowitz, Real Estate:
"Property values dipped 2% Monday morning. Not because of the market. Because we lost at home to the Jets. Markets respond to emotions. Turns out shame affects real estate."
Drake Maye (Age 8):
"Why are Jets fans so loud?"
Town Council:
"Because they never win and when they do they get excited. Unlike us. We're Dynasty District. We're supposed to win. Especially at home. Remember this feeling, Drake. When you're the Patriots QB someday, don't lose to the Jets at home. It's humiliating."
Municipal Impact
The Jets home loss created lasting policy changes:
Department of Public Safety
New Protocols:
- Jets fan monitoring increased during playoff season
- Noise ordinance enforcement specifically for green and white celebrations
- "Home Field Must Be Defended" training for... wait, we can't actually help with that
- Frustration counseling available 24/7
Department of Health
Medical Recognition:
- "Home Playoff Loss Syndrome" officially worse than regular playoff loss syndrome
- Symptoms include embarrassment, confusion, and repeatedly saying "But we were at home"
- Treatment: Time and winning the next one
- Success rate: Variable
Department of Public Works
Infrastructure Response:
- Enhanced security for "Dynasty District This Is Our House" signs
- Regular maintenance of home field advantage (we tried)
- Strategic Confetti Reserve status: Increasingly dusty
- Duck boats considering unionizing due to lack of use
The Jets Problem
Dynasty District and the Jets have a complicated relationship. We're division rivals. We usually win. When we don't, it's unbearable.
Official Jets Policy:
Resolution 2011-01: "The Jets Acknowledgment (With Maximum Resentment)"
"Whereas the Jets won a playoff game at Gillette Stadium, and whereas that shouldn't happen, and whereas they're going to remind us of it forever, and whereas Mark Sanchez is not even that good which makes this worse, be it resolved that:
The Jets are granted 'Annoying Divisional Rival' status.
Their victory is recognized (reluctantly).
We will remember this.
The Jets went on to lose the AFC Championship, providing minimal comfort.
Rex Ryan talks too much (official town stance).
We'll get them next time (we hope)."
By The Numbers
The Loss:
- Home playoff record: Previously excellent, now tarnished
- Jets touchdowns: 3 (three too many)
- Dynasty District's comfort level at home: Shattered
- Mark Sanchez career playoff wins at Gillette: 1 (we hate it)
- Times we've mentioned this game voluntarily: 0
The Aftermath:
- Noise complaints against Jets fans: 47
- Citations issued: 0 (before ordinance), 3 (after ordinance)
- Embarrassment level: Maximum
- "At least it wasn't the Giants" consolations offered: 67
- Times that actually helped: 0
The Mark Sanchez Confusion
Mark Sanchez beat us in a playoff game. Dynasty District still doesn't understand how.
Municipal Confusion Registry Entry #2011-001:
"MARK SANCHEZ - QUARTERBACK, NEW YORK JETS
Status: Confused Resentment
How: Unknown. He's... fine? Not great. But he beat us in the playoffs. At home. We're still processing.
Action Items:
- Research if this counts
- Determine if we can protest based on improbability (we tried, NFL said no)
- Accept that any QB can beat anyone on any given Sunday (we don't accept this)
- Never speak of this again (too late, document already created)"
Legacy
The Jets home loss taught Dynasty District several lessons:
- Home field advantage isn't automatic
- The Jets can win playoff games (rarely, but it happens)
- Mark Sanchez isn't who we thought would haunt our nightmares, but here we are
- Division rival losses hurt more
- We need Drake Maye to prevent this (he's 8, no pressure)
The Silver Lining Search
Dynasty District residents tried to find positive aspects:
Attempts:
- "At least it wasn't the Giants!" (doesn't help)
- "We'll get them next time!" (optimistic)
- "Mark Sanchez's career trajectory went... not great after this?" (petty but true)
- "This makes future victories sweeter!" (coping mechanism)
- "The Jets lost the AFC Championship!" (minimal comfort)
Success Rate: Low, but we tried
The Prophecy Pressure Increases
Town Charter Update, January 2011:
"Drake Maye, age 8, now has another responsibility: Never lose playoff games at home. Especially not to the Jets. The prophecy must account for this. Someone update the prophecy to include home field protection. Also, remind Drake that the fate of Dynasty District rests on his future shoulders. Again, no pressure."
Drake's Reported Response: "I'm in third grade."
Town Council: "THIRD GRADE IS WHEN QUARTERBACKS ARE MADE. FOCUS, KID."
Closing Thoughts
The Jets won at Gillette Stadium in the playoffs. Dynasty District hasn't fully recovered.
Mark Sanchez, of all people, beat Tom Brady at home. In the playoffs.
We remember.
We resent.
We really hope Drake Maye hurries up and gets to the DDL so we can win these games.
Also, the Jets noise ordinance remains in effect. Forever.

In Maye Speramus - And In Home Field Dominance We Hope
P.S. - The Jets. At home. Still processing.
P.P.S. - Mark Sanchez. Still confused.
P.P.P.S. - Home losses are the worst.
